Throughout the year, St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School students, faculty, staff, and parents participate in the following activities:
At the beginning of each school year, the faculty and staff attend a Back-to-School Retreat as a prayerful way to begin the school year. Students in fifth through eighth grades attend a yearly age-appropriate retreat.
Faculty and Student Retreats
Living Rosary
Each October, students from all grades participate in the Living Rosary. Students are selected from each homeroom to participate in the rosary. The students lead the student body by reading the Mysteries of the Rosary, as well as leading the prayers of the rosary. The Living Rosary is dedicated to a person or cause that the students reflect on while praying.
Catholic Schools WeekCatholic Schools Week is celebrated annually during the last week in January and invites the students to demonstrate their pride in being a part of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic School. Special activities and service projects are planned for each day of Catholic Schools Week.
SacramentsSecond graders are given the opportunity to participate in the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Holy Communion. The sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to students in second through seventh grades during Lent and Advent.
Stations of the CrossDuring the season of Lent, students present the student body with a reenactment of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Community Involvement
SAS students reach out to the community by collecting coats and blankets, as well as making meals for Ozanam Inn, holding food drives for United Churches of Algiers, collecting beads for St. Michael’s School, collecting food for Thanksgiving baskets, buying Christmas gifts for Catholic Charities to be given to those in need, and donating books to the West Jefferson Hospital Pediatric Unit.
May CrowningEach May, in celebration of Mary Our Mother, the student body participates in a May Crowning. All students are welcome to bring flowers to place at Mary’s feet.
