Safe Environment/Child Safety Information

As of July 1, 2021, VIRTUS is the safe environment platform used for Safe Environmen training throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans. 

Each parish, school or related entity is responsible for compliance with Safe Environment training and background checks for their employees and volunteers.   Safe Environment training, criminal background check and Virtus compliance are required prior to working with minors. There is an annual policy renewal along with renewal of both the Safe Environment training and background check every three years.

Clergy compliance with training and background checks are the responsibility of the Office of Priest Personnel and the Diaconate Office.  Safe Environment training, criminal background check and Virtus compliance are required prior to working with minors.  There is an annual policy renewal along with renewal of both Safe Envornment training and background check every three years.

If a criminal record  is found in running a background check, the parish, school or related entity contacts the Safe Environment Coordinator.
